BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA - November 18, 2025
The scoreboard wasn’t the only way to mark the success on Monday night in UAB’s 112-56 men’s basketball win over Rhodes College at Bartow Arena.
“There are probably several levels to this stuff, but overall I was proud,” UAB head coach Andy Kennedy said after his team improved to 3-2 on the young season. “I thought we got some real contributions. These are the type of games that you want to get everybody in action, so they can get some game experience. So that mission was accomplished.”
As expected, the Blazers were able to overpower Rhodes College, a Division III team playing its first game against a Division I team this season. UAB not only doubled up Rhodes College on the boards, outrebounding the Lynx, 62-34, but had a pair of double-doubles from frontcourt players. Daniel Rivera finished with 20 points, 15 rebounds, two blocked shots, a steal and tied for the team lead with four assists. KyeRon Lindsay-Martin had 11 points, 14 rebounds and a blocked shot.
“It was a concerted effort,” Kennedy said. “We wanted to go inside-out. KyeRon with 14 (rebounds), that’s hard to do, I don’t care who you play. Those other nine guys are trying to get the ball too. And then I thought, obviously, it was Daniel’s best day.”
Rivera, who made his first 3-point attempt of the season, said Monday’s performance will help with the team’s confidence moving forward.
“In general,” Rivera said when asked about the confidence. “Just playing through guys, being aggressive, more chemistry as a team. We passed the ball really well today.”
UAB was credited with a season-high 20 assists on 42 made baskets with Rivera and Ari Gooch tying for the team-high with four each.
Once again, it was Chance Westry getting things going for the Blazers. Westry had 16 of his team-high 21 points in the first half. He stuffed the stat line once again by finishing with six rebounds, three assists and four steals in 16 minutes. It was also a productive night for Jacob Meyer, who had 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field, and Salim London, who had 10 points, three assists and a steal. Dayjaun Anderson, who was a standout 3-point shooter in junior college, continued to struggle from outside the 3-point line, hitting just 1-for-8, but still had a strong outing with 13 points, three assists and two steals.
“He’s got to make some shots,” Kennedy said. “He’s got to get to work and he is putting in the work. Maybe the fact that he was 5-for-5 from two today will get him going. He was defending, he was making plays in the open floor. So he wasn’t letting his lack of knocking down 3-point shots, which is really his reputation, deter him from being a complete player.”
UAB plays again on Friday with South Alabama coming to Bartow Arena. South Alabama is 5-0 heading into Wednesday’s game at Jacksonville State.
