Blazers Secure Eight New Recruits on Signing Day

BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA - December 4, 2025

Even without a full-time head coach in place, UAB football had a productive Wednesday. The Blazers celebrated National Signing day with the addition of eight high school signees thanks to the work done by interim head coach Alex Mortensen and the coaching staff and the Blazers’ recruiting staff.

Here is a look at the signees provided by the UAB athletic media relations department.

Malachi Character, LB, 6-1, 208, Upson-Lee HS, Thomaston, Ga.

Playing three varsity seasons for Upson-Lee, Character recorded 100 tackles in all three seasons. Character finished with 369 career tackles, including 38 tackles for loss. … He had 20 double-digit tackle games across his varsity career. His career-high in tackles came against LaGrange as a junior, where he had 19 total tackles, including four tackles for loss. … A two-way player, Character rushed for 771 yards and eight touchdowns as a junior. Rushed for 1,192 yards and 13 touchdowns in his career.

Daimir Hicks, DB, 5-10, 170, Effingham County HS, Springfield, Ga.

Hicks played 14 games for Effingham County, making 60 tackles and two interceptions for the Rebels. … Effingham County went 9-3 this past season, qualifying for the GHSA 5A playoffs. … Hicks played two seasons at Calvary Day School in Savannah, Ga.

Hudson Higgins, RB, 5-10, 180, Mars Hill Bible School, Florence, Ala.

The Florence native has rushed for 1,986 yards on 129 attempts, averaging 15.4 yards per carry this season. Higgins has 32 rushing touchdowns, scoring in every contest, with 11 multi-touchdown games and a four-touchdown performance in a 56-10 win over Rogers. Higgins has rushed for over 100 yards in 10 games, reaching 200 yards twice. … Playing in all three phases, Higgins has recorded 10 or more tackles in four games this year and had three tackles for loss in the Class 3A playoff quarterfinal against Geraldine. … Higgins has three interceptions this season and two forced fumbles. Higgins has returned two punts for touchdowns, logging 183 total punt return yards. … Mars Hill Bible is currently 14-0 and will play  Bayside Academy Thursday morning in the Class 3A state championship game at Protective Stadium.

Mykale Hrabowski, DB, 6-3, 176, Minor HS, Adamsville, Ala.

Hrabowski appeared in 23 varsity games over three years for Minor, logging 97 total tackles, including 75 solo tackles. … He notched two interceptions in a 33-26 win over Mortimer Jordan in his junior year. … Hrabowski logged a career-high 14 tackles against Parker in 2024.

Brogan McNab, QB, 6-0, 185, Melbourne (Fla.) Central Catholic HS

McNab is a three-star dual-threat quarterback according to 247Sports. Was a four-year starter at Melbourne Central Catholic, playing in 43 games. … Passed for 4,680 career yards and 52 touchdowns with 15 interceptions. McNab also rushed for 2,743 yards and 35 touchdowns. … McNab led the Hustlers to back-to-back FHSAA playoff appearances before missing the majority of his senior season with an injury.

JP Price, DB, 5-9, 162,  Oakleaf HS, Orange Park, Fla.

Price was rated as a three-star recruit by 247 Sports … Logged varsity playing time in all four years of high school, recording 121 total tackles and six interceptions with one returned for a touchdown a pick-six. Added 48 pass breakups and two fumble recoveries in 35 games. … He had two interceptions in Oakleaf’s 2025 season opener and recorded three tackles and a pass breakup in a 23-14 win over Riverside. … A two-way player, Price totaled 1,243 receiving yards and 15 receiving touchdowns along with 141 kick return yards. … Oakleaf went 8-3 this past season, qualifying for the 6A playoffs.

Jayden Skelton, WR, 5-9, 160, Upson-Lee HS, Thomaston, Ga.

Three-year varsity letterman, playing in 28 varsity games, including 22 across his junior and senior seasons. Skelton caught 50 passes during his final two seasons at Upson-Lee, totaling 736 yards and nine touchdowns. … He also returned eight kickoffs for 175 yards with a career-long return of 59 yards. Skelton made 40 tackles and two interceptions on defense. … Is also a standout sprinter on the track and field team.

Wes Wiggins, OL, 6-4, 295, Smithville (Miss.) High

Wiggins is a three-star lineman according to 247Sports. He is ranked 72nd overall in the state of Mississippi and 246th among all interior linemen across the country. … Played primarily tackle and guard in high school but will probably begin as a center at UAB. …
